Why isn't light speed a number like 1000000000 m/s. Why didn't we adjust speeds to make it easier to work with. It's easy as fuck as well just take 3.0*10^8 divide it by 3 and you get 1*10^8 and just adjust speeds all over.

Humans are stupid, neither metric nor imperial is right.

Because the universe is a computer, and like all computers, when you divide by too many factors of primes other than 2 or 5, you get a repeating decimal, which causes truncation imprecision. Thus, the speed of light has a factor of 3 in it, 3 being the smallest prime not 2 or 5, and thus the most likely factor you will come across in the denominator. This helps avoid truncation error.

It's "just" a system of units either way. Just use the system most appropriate for the job you're doing and you'll be fine.
