The sad truth is, if you throw jargon and use manipulative sales tactics, you can make people believe in anything-even people who have money. Some of these groups shill cancer cures, others want to power up your boners with magnets. By far my fav are the free energy people, who always seem to spend years insisting they have solved over-unity and yet, strangely never quite get around to releasing a finished product or putting nay energy into the grid. Here's a really obscure and veeeeeeeeeeery scummy little operation i just discovered.

"Look at all the hydrogen bubbles! How could this be a scam? Look at the lightbulb-it's proof! Third-party testing? Actually releasing a product? Uh.....LOOK WE DID MATH ON SCREEN"
Brilliant Light/Blacklight Power is just as bad-they claimed to find a new state of hydrogen that would let them make super power generators...in 1991. Almost 30 years later-and they're still bilking idiots out of money with absurd "tests"
