I think you mean physical realism, technically speaking.
When you say materialist in philosophy, people may take it you mean materialist social politics, which is the approach of primarily working towards better economical conditions (rather than e.g. doing a psychological or more interview theory based approach). That's e.g. where Marx is different from the German Idealists (how he's different than Hegel, even if he also uses dialectical reasoning (any proposition taken to only have a particular truth value at a certain time and antitetical forces coming together to change state))
