Is there any reason to believe that causality "flows" forwards in time rather than backwards in time?

I don't know but if you assigned a value to the "flow of time", it would be different everywhere depending on gravitational fields, speed, and mass.

Time does not exist.
You're asking a question that literally has no meaning.
It's like asking why the cosmos isn't completely motionless and then immediately claiming that it is because of some non existent, abstract thing contrived entirely from mathematics.
There is no such thing as motionless.
That's why the universe is in motion.
There doesn't need to be some supplementary mechanism to explain why this is the case.
