I took an online general knowledge test that gives you (standardised) scores on four different knowledge scales, but provides no overall score. I made a comment that said they should provide one, and some guy responding by saying "if you don't know how to average four numbers, deduct points from your tech score". I made a long reply politely but awkwardly explaining that while I don't know much about statistics, I don't think simply averaging the subscores would give a normalised overall score in result. However, he attained 2 internet points for his comment and I none. Is this because mine was a tl;dr and his a snarky one-liner, or because his was right and mine was wrong?
