The universe generally existing in its current state is because of entropy, so by extension every aspect of the observable universe could be said to be "because of entropy"
However a more accurate cause of greed would probably be that it's evolutionary advantageous to secure as much resources for yourself as possible because it's almost always bad to run out of resources and no downside to having too much resources.
