How dirty/contaminated is everything? Does cleaning help? I've read that drinking water contains many contaminants. I have OCD and if I feel like something is "contaminated" such as an object or an entire area, then I absolutely cannot touch it or even open my mouth to speak or breathe heavily near it. I do not purchase used clothing, electronics, furniture etc... even whwn I want to, solely because I feel like they are dirty and "contaminated" even if I was to wash and clean them.
How accurate is this? Does it matter? I have this idea that "contaminants", no matter how little, negatively affect you. If I need to "contaminate myself" then I will feel somehow lesser than before. I will feel very depressed, afraid, and as if I have brain fog and my IQ dropped, as if the contaminates somehow lowered my intelligence or my drive and made me "just like everyone else" or the bottom of society. That's how it feels to me. Obviously, I have OCD and this is not how most people feel when touching a door knob, used smartphone, used thinkpad, used clothing etc, at least after cleaning them with isopropyl alcohol or the laundry machine, but I feel like you cannot actually "clean" something, and when something is "contaminated" then it always will and that it is impossible to truly clean it off. I recognize that this probably sounds irrational. I want opinions from people on this as it is what I feel, but deep down I know that it must be incorrect, but what if it isn't? I hate my OCD and it has probably ruined my life, but I cannot find someone to convince me that it is 100% irrational and making my life worse without one single benefit.
