You can go on autopilot with the majority of what you are doing because of it. It is similar to driving to work for years and not even remembering the driving part after a few months due to how repetitive it has become.
It is only during new situations that you really need to tax your brain. If there's a sport that is completely dynamic and not just a reaction to already well trained moves and outcomes then you may be onto something. I don't know of such a sport. I suppose you could argue that shogi and chess are sports or something.
