Okay, tokamak-based nuclear fusion is very interesting, but has been moving at a glacial pace over the last 20 years, primarily due to a series of astonishing delays and cost overruns in the major tokamak project that many fusion teams are globally working to support, ITER. ITER was designed in the early 90s and was supposed to be running DT experiments right around now, but it's looking like it won't be done being initially built until 2025-2027 and wont reach its ultimate goal of a Q of 10 until around 2039. ITER will cost well over 20 billion euros and will be miles from being an economical precursor to an effective power plant-DEMO is meant to be a demonstration of what such a device could be like and isn't expected to be ready until the 2050s, with actual power plants then (allegedly)beginning construction sometime in the 2060s or later. Despite all the delays,the stewards of ITER have stuck with last-gen inferior quality magnets,making the lessons learned from iter less valuable than what groups like SPARC or Tokamak Energy are working on.
