Professional Biologist working for Monsanto here. Buckle up because it's going to be a kicker.

I was put in charge as a research director of the research and development department into something that you probably wouldn't expect from Monsanto, slime molds. The idea was to improve the methods of manipulating a slime mold genetically into behaving different, however because of the way slime molds actually behave, slime molds don't just magically begin changing behavior just because DNA is changed, nor have I been able to get them to do so.

So to cut to the chase, there was a slime mold that was a special breed we made in a lab called "blue stuff". It was blue, purple, black, grey, and white all over, but, really didn't do anything much other than survive off decomposing bodies. The idea was to try and get it to instead store the genetics of other creatures inside of itself and carry it on through the air, however, it didn't do this. We tried cross breeding the slime with another slime which easily crossed through the air. This is when the break through happened.

Apparently the slime that was suppose to be used for a cross breed began acting differently without ever really changing its DNA and revealed a massive ball of DNA that wasn't just from one individual species, but, from many. Apparently DNA has been traveling through the air for a very long time from all species thanks to this slime mold and now research into missing links might be possible.
