Apart from German lessons, for fusion you need to go in a direction where you can gain energy. Thorium is in the far right of this plot. What do you want to get out of wit via fusion?

when rod is used
U-235 breaks up
U-238 --> U-239 --> Np-239 --> Pu-239

after U-235 portion drops to 0.3%
the rod is used up

waste storage: 10,000 years

Pu-239 can be used to build nuclear weapons

THORIUM
---------------------------------------------
Th-232 --> Th-233 --> Pa-233 --> U-233

U-233 is then used to make pellets

when pellets are used
no U-238 in pellets => no Pu-239 is created
U-233 --> U-232 --> Tl-208

waste storage: 300 years

U-233 can be used to build nuclear weapons,
but only after the U-232 is separated from the mix

Thorium in molten salts - FLiBe or NaFBe (both with thorium hexafluoride) can be used as a blanket in a tokamak style magnetic confinement fusion reactor. As the thorium is bred to U233 (depending on the salt) you get both Tritium and/or Deuterium. These naturally rise out of the molten fuel-salt and are injected into th plasma to feed the fusion reactions, whether it is a DD it DT fusion plasma. You can also do it without the Th and use the fusion as a neutron source but it is unpredictable. With a reflector and moderator (graphite) you can essentially throttle the Th reactions to the needs of your fusion plasma. Much more complicated but that is the idea(s)

which materials are they using?
I have always this tought that some rare material (rhodium platinum etc..) could be used in those things yield millions to those who have purchased these metals.
If you were to suggest a material that could make nuclear fusion possible, which would you suggest?
