I know up to multivar calc and can solve simple systems of DEs. I just fucked up by signing up into PDEs and numerical methods of solving ODEs without explicitly taking an ODE class. That's why I believe I have to cram them in a week.

Yea the numerical methods are piss easy, the PDEs is definitely the hardest class I've taken. The professor is an analyst stating explicitly in his page that PDEs are his research interest and told us at the beginning of the class that we will spend 95% of the time on the theory and not on the computing of specific PDEs analytically. He also said his class is hard.

Is this an undergrad class? Do you have analysis background? Do you go to a serious STEM school? If this isn't differential Galois theory, then he is just trying to scare you. The reality is that undergrad PDE classes are just formula and technique classes, with most of the "theory" coming from algebraic/geometric intuition, and a tiny bit of analysis thrown in to filter the As from the A plusses.

Nope, he did give some examples of how you can represent a PDE with F(D^n u, D^(n-1) u, ... Du, u, x)=0 which looks similar to the examples of elements of sobolev spaces in wikipedia. He suggested Evans's book on PDEs and that he'll teach chapters 1-3 and something about weak solutions.

If he's going with Evans and your ODE theory is nonexistent I'd drop the class. Actually if he's going with Evans for an undergrad course I'd avoid the prof's classes altogether.

How the fuck can you take PDE with only multivariable calculus? You should know topology and measure theory at the bare minimum. Honestly there's no point in taking that course without the background because even if you pass you won't understand what the fuck you're doing.
