How come people who try to commit suicide by way of pills...generally end up just puking, passing out and surviving like nothing happens?

But animals/humans who eat the wrong type of berries end up dying?

Over the counter medicine is made to be hard to OD on, you can do yourself some serious injury with them however in most cases it's quite difficult to actually kill yourself outright with over the counter pills. Nature on the other hand doesn't play around with poisons, they are evolved to kill or severely fuck your shit up to the point where without modern aid you'd die.

You don't hear about the people who commit suicide with pills and succeed, because their families would often want to keep it private for personal reasons, or hide the suicide. You do often hear about people dying from berries because it makes for dramatic headlines and useful warnings about the potential deadliness of poor foraging.

In reality, there are many many cases of people committing suicide by pills, and many many cases of people surviving misidentified berries.

Because they're retards and think you can overdose by eating 25 OTC ibuprofens. In reality, the only real pills that are going to reliably kill you in any non-fucked up excruciating way are opiates. Take 5-10 your standard dose and you'll be dead in a few hours - and without any discomfort or displeasure. . . you just fall asleep and stop breathing.

I suppose to some extent. I don't know the therapeutic index of opiates off the top of my head, but a lot of times people overdose from closer to 3-4 times their recreational does. For instance someone without much opiate tolerance might enjoy 15-30 mg of oxycodone, while 80-100mg could be enough to cause fatal respiratory depression.

I guess with a normal therapeutic dose of 5mg that 80-100mg range would put you in 14-20 times your therapeutic dose, so significantly higher than the number I originally cites, but certainly nowhere near 10x the 30mg recreational dose.

Not necessarily.
As a long term survival strategy you're better off just making animals super sick, that way its going to learn to avoid that particular plant.
