How do people get diagnosed with terminal cancer?

Shouldn't you feel sick at the firsts stages of cancer? How can it be possible to get suddenly diagnosed with final phase cancer?

they feel bad but they ignore it because they aren't very smart
most cancers you don't have any hard symptoms like "cough blood"
by the time you have ANY noticeable symptoms it's probably at stage 2 already so you'll have to get radiation or chemo
tl;dr if you don't want to die of cancer you need to go for a full checkup at least once a year

My dad had cancer for years and by the time he found out, he was given at best several weeks to live. He died less than two weeks later. I don't know how he didn't notice, but my dad exercise regularly, and was still going to work literally just days before the diagnosis.
One day he just got a bad stomach ache and it kept getting worse over the next to day. That's when he checked into the hospital, but at that point it was too late.

Did he go to the doctor every 6 months for a checkup? You really should get your bloodwork done and a general visit to the doctor at least every year. Most cases of people dying of cancer in USA is just them not going to doctor until they dieded.

Lmao that means you are highly likely fucked, even if you do get successful surgery it would likely have to be some radical lobectomy, if not pulmonectomy which would in turn make you extremely likely to die of a simple chest infection.

Some cancers are incredibly fast growing. I had a family member with perfectly clean bloodwork done 5 months before diagnosis.

Then she started coughing ~1 month before diagnosis. She saw her doctor after around 2 weeks, didn't respond to antibiotics. Got a chest X-ray that was clean.

Ultimately the cough was being caused by a metastasis in her liver. Doctors couldn't find the primary tumor site, they just knew it was metastatic because her type of tumor almost never originates there.

Idk this is a good question. I know he did go for check ups but I don't know how extensive they were or if there was anything else alarming. I do know that he pretty much just went to a GP though, so I don't know if he could have benefit from more extensive medical supervision of some sort. I know his dad also died of cancer around the same age (late 50s, and neither smoked or drank), so I'd assume that would put him in a "high risk" category. I also forgot to add in my original post that they did actually notice some anomalies in his blood work several months before the stomach pains, but they couldn't figure out what was causing it initially and I think it was only like 2-3 months before he died, so it was probably still too late at that point.

it depends on cancer type and ones metabolism I had a non hodgkin lymphoma, which several terse symptoms led to diagnosis
the prodromes were basically an abnormal weight loss, exponentially growing lump (that i thought was due to an infection),fever
I did a blood test that showed all normal but a spike in Immunoglobulin VH, a lump biopsy was needed to confirm
also cancer is totally destructive its a comeuppance before after life whatever your prognosis even you survive you will be a subhuman with all your characteristics lowered to nadir, the chemotherapy leaves your brain botched and fucced memorization, abstraction, reasoning etc all get impaired and dumped an hero is the only cope but i dont have the guts for it
