Hello, /sci/.
I've already posted this on /adv/(>>>/adv/21439645), but considering entirely different userbase and that posts on /adv/ usually get little amount of replies, I didn't get much of the requested information, so I decided to repost it here.
I'm currently struggling to find a field I want to pursue in life. I studied law for 2 years, but to the end of the second year, I realised that I would not want to dedicate my life or even some time of it to this field and want to be a scientist instead. I'm currently on a second year of studying electrical engineering, but have lost all the passion that I ever had for this field. I don't see myself as an EE and would want to change my subject of study.
I want to work in nature-related fields, that is, I want to work with trees, rivers, oceans, rocks, animals, and alike. I figured the best bet for me would be geology.
After spending some time in 4chan archives I discovered many posts requesting the help I request now, but almost all of them are from ~2008-2014. Considering that the world has changed a bit since then a fresh advise would be nice.
Guys, I need your advice.
Should I get into geology?
What are the prospects of this field?
What subjects should I study to prepare myself(i.e. math, physics, geography)?
How relevant will petroleum engineering be in the upcoming decade(considering Western world moving to more renewable sources of energy)?
What is a good branch of geology to pursue(Geochemistry, Geophysics, Oceanography, etc.)?
Basically, would want to hear from a geologist his thoughts on the matter. But if you know and can help me with anything from the list, please help.
(Also, I don't view geology as my final choice. Please, if you study, or work, or just know anything about forestry, biology, zoology, archeology and related fields, help!)
P.S. I live in Eastern Europe(if that's important).
