I need a formula. Unfortunately, how to phrase it kind of escapes me. So, excuse the word salad, please.
I'm a writer. The fictional, storybook world I'm building, they use pneumatics because gunpowder is not an option. Why isn't it an option? Because aesthetics and also because politics and lets just say it's not an option. Pneumatics or nothing at all. Even if it means the air-arms are stationary like maxim machine guns.
And the characters need a formula. They need a formula that would allow them to estimate the power necessity of ammunition based on size, dimensions and composite mass for purpose. Whether it be BBs to peg squirrels and birds in the head, rats, or bigger things like raccoons and bears.
They need an estimate for each gram to be able to travel fast enough to go far enough, accurate enough, to hit the target. Whether that target is a mere few feet away, or up to 3-4 kilometers. Fast enough that the pull of gravity won't pull the projectile off the mark too awfully quick for it to hit. Supersonic speeds.
Being able to adjust the air pressure behind each bullet to 0.0000001 PSI or Pascal of requirements, virtually any caliber can go from popgun to sniper rifle. I just need to know how to plug the numbers in to get the adequate results I want. And don't know how to do that.
Anyone wanna take a stab at this?
