How can I efficiently improve my mental calculations? Even basic operations can be tiresomely slow. Forgive me if this isn't /sci worthy or some shit.

Just approximate everything. For example Instead of thinking 535*953 think about 500*1000 which is trivial to calculate. Precise calculations are for computers or those who have too much time on their hands.
