In practice, read something, stop, re-write it in your own words with examples from your life etc. (Basically run it through as much of the neural network as possible)... then check if correct against a sample set. If correct, great keep repeating, if not adjust weights and test again...
Do this until you learn.
It's pretty much a solved problem now.
