Throughout my life, I have always gotten by with the minimum pass grades for my subjects. so my resume/cv is very mundane and just looks like another sub-par cv with nothing special going for it.
I was always perfectly aware that I could do better, but I have always just been way too lazy to try or put the effort in. I never felt any real need or drive to do so.
Fast forward to now, I am in university and things are starting to ramp up in terms of difficulty, I study computer engineering (maths, coding, computing, circuitry etc.)
I recently looked into a student exchange program provided by my university, which would allow me to study abroad, this idea alone encouraged me to pull my grades up and do very well rather than just scraping by.
My problem, however, is that I haven't ever worked on my ability to revise. I find myself studying for sometimes 9 hours at a time for my different modules, and when I talk to others who have studied the same thing as me, they sound as though they are a lot more versed in the subject area.
I don't know how to maximise my efficiency, or how to grasp the entirety of a topic that I am trying to learn, as opposed to a few applications of the topic in little detail. it's very frustrating to spend so long reading over something only to find that I haven't taken a lot of it in.
Is there any way at all I can improve in this regard? I want nothing but to do very well and to have a shot at the student exchange program that I was talking about before. I have tried watching khan academy videos and doing worked examples, but that only increases my ability to mindlessly answer questions when I see that they meet the requirement for a certain set of steps. I don't actually know the logistics behind why I am doing those steps or how to logistically look at what's happening. I find it so very frustrating because it just seems like i'm wasting a lot of time in exchange for very little payoff.
