just from reading the wikipedia page, it is predictable, but this would be impossibly impractical, as there are far too many molecules to account for. so it's modelled with a probability distribution.

It's a mouthful. With an extra dimension/histogram at the finish line we'd see a nice Gaussian.
And this goes for a lot of processes, see Feynman-Kac formula. So OP's example is one of the nicer cases
