I understand that depression can be caused by lowered levels of specific hormones, so why aren't tests done to figure out which hormones are causing problems? I've asked multiple doctors this and none of them ever thought of doing it but it seems so simple. Instead, they go through the process of testing random medications through tedious trial and error over years. Is there some technological barrier that prevents these hormones from being isolated or tested or are doctors just literally retarded?
