Let's say I have 2 cameras. Camera A is positioned at a 13° angle and rotates 25° per hour. Camera B is positioned at a 27° angle and rotates 13° per hour. When, if at all, will the 2 cameras be facing the same direction? I've been trying to solve this for months and I give up.

Create expressions for both the camera's rotation
Where x is the time in hours

Camera A Position = 13 + 25x
Camera B Position = 27 + 13x

Camera A Position = Camera B Position

13 + 25x = 27 + 13x
12x = 14x
x = 7/6

Therefore it would take 70 minutes for the cameras to reach a common angle of around 42.1667 degrees.

No. You misunderstood my question.

The cameras move like an arm on a clock. They are not constantly rotating, but rather switch to a new position on the hour. There is no "between" position, which would be required for the above formula.

Well it seems they rotate 12° towards the second camera and they are 14° apart, so it takes 14/12 hours. (14/12*60=70minutes) No idea why you had trouble figuring out.

Think of it this way.

On the first rotation, Camera A moves at 27h + 13 where h is hours and 13 is the initial state.

After it passes 360 (13 turns), it's new initial state is 4.

The difference between the cameras starts at 14° and every hour 12° is added to it.
So the difference is 14 + 12t, where t is the amount of hours passed.
For the cameras to ever face in the same direction, this would have to be a multiple of 360°.
So we can set up the equation: 14 + 12t = 360k.
Solving for t gives: t = 30k - 7/6.
This is never an integer, therefore the cameras never face in the same direction.

I think it's trivial then, just that they rotate at different rates they will be overlapping facing in the same direction and their two paths will overlap on something at some distance (this we can't know without knowing distance of cameras from eachother) but we know they'll over lap looking at a point multiple times

I generally don't refer to cameras that are facing eachother as being faced in the same direction.

A = 13 + 25(h)

Assuming both cameras are rotating in the same direction (think clockwise) and the initial angles of 13 and 27 degrees are based off the same reference point:

13 + 25(h) = 27 + 13(h)
12(h) = 14
h = 14/12
Or, 1 1/6 hours
or 1 hour, 10 minutes after beginning to spin (assuming they start at the same time)

I agree with this - I just added the numbers on 2 calculators up to 1538 degrees for the first object 13+25 and 820 degrees for the second object 27+13 .. every time they would come close to being the same rotation angle they would be 2 degrees off 4 / 2 times round passing 4 times.
