Probably both. I used to hallucinate ringing phones from work related stress and I could not distinguish between them. I had to go and look at the phone to see if the lights were blinking. I think my employees were worried I had snapped and was going to kill them.

The world isn't as mundane as public school text books tell children, is that really a surprise to anyone? Schizophrenia, in particular, usually has to do with experiencing things from the spirit world or other non-physical analog realms. Best thing to do is unfuck your mindstate and train yourself to have a strong mind and maybe some sort of psychic defense system in place, or at least strong chakras or chi. Of course no one in this thread will believe what I am saying, and they will say baby words at me like "woo" or "gobbeldegook" to try and delegitimize what I'm saying. Oh well, antipsychotic medication is a literal chemical lobotomy, better to just do mushrooms, LSD, or DMT with a good set and setting and some intention for your trip and you will actually grow as a person instead of being stunted by government zombie drugs to keep the populace in control.

I occasionally get auditory hallucinations before I sleep when I'm stressed and taken a melatonin pill.

To me, it sounds like a loop of music or a sound effect or a drum fill reverberating from my eardrum and into my skull, or a vaguely familiar voice saying gibberish right behind me.

Occasionally sleep paralysis sets in and I literally have to do the pulp fiction thing of focusing on moving my toe to start willing myself to move, all this after coming to from some weird nightmare I slipped into while still being semi conscious.

This only happens when I'm stressed, thankfully.

For example: I "woke up" from my dream to find myself in a white room on a bed, there were three vents on the ceiling and bugs were crawling out of it, there was a scorpion hanging off the vent directly above me. The scorpion fell and I was teleported to my room as I realized "wait why does this room have three vents. Why can't I move? Oh yeah sleep paralysis probably." Then upon this realization I start focusing in on my toe, then it wiggles and suddenly I gain control of my motor functions again.

What does it mean if I start to hallucinate voices when sleep-deprived for more than three days, but I always know they aren't real and they never seem to talk directly to or even "notice" me? It's usually characters from some TV show I've seen talking to one another in (seemingly) coherent conversations, some of which are legitimately funny/interesting, to me at least. A couple of times have involved people that in my actual life, but even then I held no delusion that it was actually them. I know that this will likely progress unless I find some way to combat insomnia, but I've never really heard of these schizophrenic hallucinations never referencing the individual generating them. I'll also hear sirens if I'm around a certain range of higher pitches and mumbling if I'm around a certain range of lower ones. I've never been frightened by any of this and have always been able to recognize the delusion, even "study" it (as much as things like this can really be studied, at least). I've felt no paranoia over any of this, or much else at all really, and have honestly enjoyed some of the conversations these characters have.
Is this just how it starts? What would any of you advise me to do the next time it happens? I've run out of my own ideas for experimentation. Nobody in my family has ever had schizophrenia, at least not heavily enough for them to be unable to keep it a secret from the world, so I imagine this is due to lack of sleep, but should I see someone to make sure? I know that I should just get more sleep, but it's been difficult to do that for my entire life, and I'd almost rather welcome the chaos than to continue fighting my brain's desire to not be in that state.

It sounds completely external. You get the same inner monologue as everyone else does, too, but the hallucinations characteristic of schizophrenia sound just like someone is standing behind you (or just off to the side) and speaking aloud. That's what makes them so powerful.

They feel like they do, just like in a dream you don't notice there is no sounds, sensations, etc, you imagine it all.

Schizophrenia is just an overload, the same shit going on while you dream but while you are awake, degenerating till you go totally insane.

Everything you experience is just processed data, you dont actually "hear" the sounds directly, or see things, the sight you experience is heavily processed before you are conscious of it.

Your consciousness is imagining your sight. The reality is you are just picking through an abstract syntax tree of objects.

In schizoid people the imagination portion of the brain mixes with the other inputs and goes all fuzzy. Sort of like if parts of your brain are in dream mode while you are trying to get a glass of water from the fridge.

The inputs are all mixed up. Also, your "thoughts" are input. If you understand that you'll understand it. Say, thinking about the next word you are writing is just an input from another system. Your thoughts themselves can become scrambled if that input system is off at all.

Try to imagine writing a sentence and the next word is just beetle and it seems totally logical. All consciousness is just a sort of central processing layer with the highest precedence most of the time (can be overriden by immediate reactions like if you touch a stove)

If your carefully crafted system becomes off at all, like in schizos, you can have all sorts of crazy shit go on. It's a fragile multiplex system

The full-blown auditory hallucination was just a one time event. I get mild visual hallucinations a lot more frequently though. I sometimes see people who aren't there for a split second out of the corner of my eye. There was another instance where I was in my living room, and saw shadows appearing at the entrance. I get this but instead I have to focus on flickering my eyelids and that pulls me out of it. One time I tried to relax and "accept" the sleep paralysis to see where it went, I ended up having a deep state of panic and thought I was going to die even though I knew logically that nothing was happening, and I had to flicker my eyelids to escape.
