Computer Science is a wide field that studies computation or entities involving computation. There is theory, concerned with the fundamental nature of what computation is in a mathematical / natural sense (complexity, recursion theory, time and space heirarchies, etc). There is systems, concerned with solving problems that have to do with designing a general computation system, such as scheduling, the illusion of infinite memory, caching, etc. There's stuff in applications that lies in the border, like machine learning, which uses analysis, numerical methods, and optimization theory to talk about rigorous approximations to decision problems, etc etc. Ultimately, each subfield has a rich history despite being so young.
