We had an auxiliary course on categories which everyone could attend (but we were required to, this was for a pure math major). There were around 15 students from our math department and, like, 30-40 CS students, the professor was legit surprised, we had to reschedule a larger room so everyone could fit in.
Obviously they pretty much all left by 2nd-3rd lecture since all motivational examples/illustrations are about homologies or products of modules over rings and they don't even know basic shit like groups or vector spaces.
This was not in the US by the way, so this craze/hype is very pervasive.
