Last night I was outside doing astronomy. I saw Saturn and Jupiter, using a Mak 127SLT with a mix of Kelner and Plossl lenses and a 2x Barlow. Saturn was beautiful, Jupiter was hazy, but I noticed something I could not identify. It shimmered/twinkled the way planets do, but I could not resolve it no matter what I tried. It looked kind of like an asterisk (*), with a kind of 'rainbow effect' of alternating red and green light. I have noticed it in roughly the same place for weeks now, if not months, before I even got a telescope. This makes me think it is probably very far away if it seems to have lingered in the same place for this long?
