As the left side gets bigger the bigger x is, there can not be more solutions than that.

substitute (2^x)^2 for 4^x

multiply by 4 and complete the square to get (2^x+4)^2=1296
take the square root and throw out the negative due to logs can't be negative

get 2^x=sqrt(1296)-4

then x=log(sqrt(1296)-4)/log(2)=5
