Catapult Design ideas?

Hey /sci
I am trying to create a 50cm x 50cm x 50cm catapult that can shoot a golf ball.
I have a basic catapult design in my head which badly drawn diagram I attached.

Anyone have any experience with creating a catapult? Any suggestions? (sorry if I am posting wrong i'm new to /sci)

PS.
I can't:
>make a trebuchet
>have external triggering mechanism
>use electronics
>use pressure

Right away, I would suggest
>compounding the rope pully with a block and tackle, get some mechanical advantage

With your elastic shaped like that you would be better off making more of a slingshot. Typically the stretchy part of a catapult is at the rotation point for the arm.

What exactly do you mean by a block and tackle? where would I place that? Also is it true that my catapult would shoot better if I had the elastic at the rotation point of the arm?

yeah that makes sense. this way, you get pure torque as opposed to a force that is basically parallel to the beam when it is fully cocked.

then you can't make a catapult. At some point you will need to apply a force over an area on your golf ball. If you actually can use pressure a pretty damn good option is a centrifugal projectile launcher. So you build something like pic related, big fly wheel with a spiral track which you drop your golf ball into preferably in a vacuum chamber. The max speed you can attain will be heavily dependent on how much acceleration your golf ball can take before breaking apart, but speeds up to 1 km/s should be possible in this size range. You will need to spin up the flywheel before firing with an electric motor or something. But you can disconnect before the competition and use the stored energy, should take a good amount of time to spin down. Fuck with a flywheel that can fit in that space you could power a goddamn car for a bit. Just look at kinetic energy recovery systems. Do this OP. Don't tell whoever's making the shitty rules about what you're doing and show up with a flywheel that's already spinning. MAKE THEM FEAR YOU!

God this made my day. I am tempted to actually try to do this but I'm really not tryna fail my semester grade. Maybe I will make a catapult and try to make a flywheel and bring the flywheel too just for shits
