I """acquired""" some sulfuric acid from a high school lab today and I wanted to bring it home to do the sulfuric acid and sucrose experiment. I had roughly 5ml of it and the bottle said it was 62% so i thought that was still decently strong. I poured it on some sugar and a glass and nothing happened. The sugar just got wet and stained brown sort of like pic related, but there was no heat or any other sign of a reaction, it just looked like the sugar soaked it up. I took what little acid was left and poured some on a piece of cotton and a piece of paper because I know sulfuric acid reacts with those too, but still absolutely nothing happened. I dont know much about chemistry so is it possible the acid got "deactivated" somehow? I took the acid home in a 5 polypropylene container and poured it with what I assume is a stainless steel spoon if any of that matters.
