Why do we characterize gene? Tell me if I got this right, So we see exactly what genes do and how they work with important processes in our body. Then we see if activating them is good or bad in mice or rats. Then we make drugs that turn them on or off to help diseases.

This seems overly simple, but it is pretty much how I think of the goals of molecular biologists and geneticists in the medical field. I feel like i am thinking about this in the wrong way.
