f'(x) (Lagrange) is useful for single variable.
df/dx (Leibniz) is useful if you have more than one variable, or if you need to differentiate between total and partial derivative.
Newton's notation is mostly used in mechanics/physics out of habit. If I see a dot over an x, I know that it's a problem about classical mechanics.
