It is like a tabloid, entertaining by focusing on the bizarre things, like Ouamuamua, Higgs field instability, or highlighting strange persons like Perelman or Hossenfelder. The difference to a tabloid is that most things on /sci/ are not made up bullshit and very detailed information can be found here. I'm not even a physicist, but I have many friends working in theoretical physics or space and they like to chat with me about all the bizarre things I usually first found on 4chan. They just have their limited, specialized work and don't have the time to research all the interesting new things in physics.
