It's not slick or fashionable in any way, it's exactly the type of textbook you're probably used to from elementary school math and high school science. Expect heavy, expensive, some dumb colorful text boxes, and lots and lots of practice problems.
It's a successful format for a reason, it turns out this is the ideal textbook for the average student. Those practice problems in particular mean even if you don't understand the material very well, you can grind and grind until you are able to pass the exam. So in this sense it's a good textbook, though the snobs and autists will grumble.
