I don't understand what these are supposed to be. Are they even real? Are they nothing more than a mathematical trick and basically nonexistent? I feel like there should be a much simpler and elegant explanation rather than "there are 6 of this things which have randomly assigned mass, charge and spin and they conform basically everything"
Why do physicists even accept this?
