For example, humans find people that are "symmetrical" more beautiful. But all humans have the same ability to be symmetrical at birth. Environmental factors change the final product however. This can come in the form of significant stress at a young age, malnutrition, poor health, an illness -- and a host of other things.
So when we see someone that is unattractive, we are actually making a judgement on their upbringing. Did they come from a good home, a good family? Did they eat well as a child? Develop properly? And if those answers are "no", we'll likely see that in their physical appearance.
Why is it that rich people often have pretty children? Because the children are born and raised in a state of having everything. No illnesses that nag and tear away at their health. They always have food on the table. Stress is low, cortisol is low. So even the "ugly ones" still turn out alright.
