Does anyone else get really uncomfortable when someone calls you smart. Forever I have almost always reacted negatively to someone saying I'm smart by either laughing uncomfortably or changing the subject as quickly as I can. I just had an epiphany. Someone just told me that "you're so smart" when I was explaining something. I asked them if they could explain why they thought that and the gist of what they said was it is impressive how you can recall and explain things that I've never heard of. To me, that's not smart, it may be savvy or related to high emotional intelligence but not actual intelligence. I have always related the word smart to problem solving or original thought, so I would always feel guilty as if people thought I was some genius and not just relaying information that I had explained to me as if I were a retard and now repeating the same exact thing. So I'm now able to be gracious when someone calls me smart because I now understand that they don't actually think of me highly as some genius lmao and am now comfortable with it. This took me 28 years to understand.
