They had "good intuitition/the right idea" but they weren't actually in possession of knowledge, because the "justified" part of "true justified belief" was missing. This would only be filled in later by Weierstrass, Dedekind etc.
That true and academic distinction aside, they got FTC and some various basic shit with elementary functions, I think.
