They are awful at it, most men live there lives by instinct as a natural way of avoiding openly showing weakness when they're normally stupid enough that doing so is pretty easy to do in there normal life, and this causes them to not be able to read others and understand nuance, or be willing to avoid conflict, that's a big one, it makes you tough on the outside but leaves you stumped for understanding the reasons behind conflicts which just fucks you over on every level of actual understanding.
