The advancements of the 17th century in physics and other fields were built upon early achievements of the mediaeval and classical periods.
Claims that the "scientific method" was created during this period, or that "modern science" emerged or "became a separate from philosophy" without providing clear definitions of any other those terms is a semantic illusion.
All knowledge is connected, and a great scientist is interested in philosophy and history.
