Is anyone actually altruistic? I enjoy helping people and generally just not being a piece of shit, but I already answered my own question; I do it because I enjoy it, if I didn't but felt obligated to then I'd still being doing it because satisfying whatever obligation I have to myself would ultimately still benefit me over feeling like an asshole for being one.
If I saw $20 sticking out of someone's pocket I wouldn't take it because feeling bad about it to me isn't worth the money, does this actually make me a good person for some arbitrary reason or am I simply still making choices I feel will benefit me the most? Am I actually morally good or did determinism just result in my priorities being aligned with that of a human concept of "good"?
