Red's pieces are pretty close to being trapped. The stone at b6 can either help trap reds pieces or park at b2, threatening a mill.

Blue has three options.
A. 10. b6 c5 11. e3 d3 12. e5xc5 f2 13. f6-f4 df6 14. d6 d2 It might be possible to trap reds pieces. Otherwise, the existing mill can clean house.
B. 10. e3 d3 11. e5 or 10. e3 d3 11. b6 c4-?? 12. e5xd3 This line seems promising as well.
C. 10. e5 d5 11. f6-d6 f6 12. f5 b2 13. e3 d2 14. b2 b4 I don't see a way to get d2 with tempo. Similar lines result in a capture race.

This is for a computer program. I might try to solve Nine Men's Morris. I'm also interested in creating an a.i that can play any game of perfect information. I also intend to create a computer program that randomly generates rules for games of perfect information and plays them.

Once red takes away one of the three pieces restricting his five pieces that can't be taken, it's all over. It might be a draw though. Unfortunately the computer doesn't accept draws. There should be the equivalent of the 50 move rule, maybe less moves since 9MM is a shorter game. If such a rule exists, "Smart Little Games" failed to program it.

Only e4 was free. Four pieces are needed to hold down the mills. If the other two blue stones move, then d2 escapes. I guess it could have been 3v3.

Move 10 and possibly move 13 seem to be the most critical points in this game.
