He brought really useful ideas from mathematics into the mainstream of theoretical physics and revolutionized our understanding of space and time. There was also a pretty quick turnaround for his theory to be verified by experiment. That'll propel anyone's career.

He presented a series of models that solved various serious problems of physics at the time, such as explaining how the speed of light can be the same for all observers while physics before Einstein predicted that this shouldn't be happening. His theories also completely changed how physicists view reality. All of this was completely revolutionary at the time.

technically it did. His first paper on the subject showed that Maxwell's equations were manifestly Lorentz covariant.

He did a lot more than relativity. He kickstarted quantum mechanics and helped shape it to a useful theory, he explained Brownian motion, developed a refrigerating system, explained single-sided erosion on rivers flowing north-south etc etc.
