What is going on with vaping? Was there some manufacturing change? Or are ejuices finally causing long term problems?

So far as I can tell from what's in the news it's caused by a significant influx of illegally altered vape juices containing an additive which is already not allowed in legal manufacturing (Vitamin E acetate, which requires a much higher temperature to vaporize and which then condenses inside the lungs as an irritation causing oily deposit). It seems to me this is just another side effect of the war on drugs making it essentially impossible to oversee the safe manufacture of drugs by creating enormous black markets in which there are no standards and in which safety standards are mostly nonexistent. People are dying and politicians are crying over a problem that the government created for itself.

Damn I better reup on juice ingredients before they make it illegal. You know, I've inhaled a lot of stupid things, including maybe 200,000 cigarettes, a bunch of gasoline and rubber cement, between 5 and 10 lbs of weed, and even once smoked an ibuprofen, and after inhaling a couple gallons of vape juice I can say it's not as bad for lungs as cigarettes.

I don't feel as though I explained my point well:

Tobacco (and alcohol) are grandfathered into the legal system. They've been around so fucking long that it doesn't matter what their health risks are, just that if the government tried to take it away, people would be fucking pissed. This (and yes, significant lobbying from smoking manufacturers) is why the government is so against legalizing new stuff: the moment it becomes legal, it STAYS legal. Forever. There is no going back, even if it proves to have significant health risks.

vg/pg, nic, and flavor are all that goes into most liquid last i checked. contaminated or poorly manufactured e-liquid does not make vaping an inherent health risk like shit-eating politicians make it out to be. the risk is not nearly commensurate to that of smoking tobacco.

Think long game. You get it regulated to the point where only big commercial companies can afford to get licensed and tested to manufacture vape liquids due to safety regulations and you basically shut out all the vape stores with their assortment of vape liquids. Its a market control ploy, and honestly a smart one to secure the market when it's clearly taking off with more and more young people vaping. Sure, you hurt your short term income with the negative press on the product then take in the cash when you and a few other companies carry the only government approved safety regulated vape products.

i'm glad the hysteria happened. I picked vaping up over summer as a something to do to pass the time, then when the hysteria of deaths started happening, I researched more into of what was the actual health affects of vaping and it's going to fuck all your shit up long term. I do miss vaping, as ejuice w/ nicotine on a decent mod is fun hobby, but regardless, degenerate your quality of life.

The funniest thing about this is in Michigan where weed is legal the ban doesn't affect THC cartridge market and they are still able to be sold in dispensaries. I really don't understand if these deaths are a result of actual ejuice vaping (Propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, nicotine, and possible added flavors) or thc vaping which swore off many of those ingredients. The best part was youtube videos telling people to eyeball their thc vape pens and if it was thin as a result of being cut with normal ejuice ingredients (possibly) they were not safe to consume and fake. Which then led to producers adding thickeners.

America lacks basic first world economic policies, such as those that exist in Europe, which is why these vaping cases are only happening in America. E-liquids are thoroughly tested here before they can be sold on the market.
