I understand that humans put themselves above all other animals, yet when an animal population grows too large for an area to support it, it is generally accepted that to save the species, a cull is a valid response. Taking this into account and I mean this purely scientifically, would a Thanos-like random culling of the population of a country that is ravaged by poverty, social problems and overpopulation, i.e. India or China, allow governments the opportunity to aid the survivors and establish a more first-world level of living standards, improve productivity, education and lower emissions and resource consumption? I would expect for something like this to work the cull would have to eliminate 45-55% of the population.

This concept has been explored in many forms from Infinity War to Kingsmen. What are your thoughts on it /sci/?
