Physical fitness and spinal cord injuries in accidents

Who is most likely to walk away unscathed without any injuries? Is it the fat, skinny, or muscular person?

Read about people who got locked in syndrome or had their legs paralyzed as a result of a drunk drivers. I'm curious, is it possible that you could actually prevent or reduce the risk of something like this from happening just from changing your body composition or fitness?

I've heard some say that tensing up muscles increases the risk of injuries, so I'm not sure if the muscular guy would survive unscathed. The fat guy has a built in airbag and the skinny guy has less mass.
