What is the distance between these two coordinates? I took the square root of (x2 ? x1)^2 + (y2 ? y1)^2 and got 7. How the FUCK is it seven!? You can move there in 5 units without even using a straight line! Wouldn't a straight line be <5 for sure? Look at the distance! It doesn't look like it would be more that 4 units. What the fuck is going on here? Am I literally a colossal retard?

That's because the distance is sqrt(3^2 + 2^2) = sqrt(13)

I'm using the commonly accepted formula, dingus. I just didn't realise the calculator prioritises roots over exponents in order of operations. Added in some parentheses and it works just fine.

I can indeed use Pythagorean theorem, it was just the order of operations that caused the incorrect answer.
I may be a dingus for not realising this right away but they are clearly a dingus of a much higher calibre if they call someone a fool for using the standard formula.

They are ambiguous though, look at the formula. To eliminate the ambiguity there should be an additional set of parentheses under the square root. Otherwise a calculator prioritises the root over the exponents.
