There are almost no jobs that hire specifically for "bioengineering"
It doesn't even make sense as a discipline.
Every other field of engineering has been developed over many decades or centuries. The curricula are coherent and based on fundamentals.
The point of any engineering curriculum is to give you a foundation from which ti approach many problems in the field.
Bioengineering can have no such foundation in the present day. Very few problems are really "solved" in biology, there's so much that we don't know at the molecular level.
Everything engineering-related that you learn in bioengineering is simply cribbed from other fields of engineering except without the context of actually studying that field. That's the real problem of a bioengineering degree, it exists merely as a synthesis of other engineering disciplines. The topics are so stupidly widespread that they don't make sense at all to offer within one degree. You might be doing genome editing, or prosthetic devices, or surgical/ medical devices, or bioreactor design. None of these are actually related to each other besides that they deal with living systems.
So just pick EE, or ChemE, or CompE, or MechE and find some biology focus. You will be much better off and be more respected. It's not even a matter of hedging your options outside the bio field. You will do better within bio with one of the real engineering degrees.
