So the other day I was having a conversation with a friend of mine and a discussion of AI came up. I told him that a fully functional AI would have to be the next step in human evolution. How wrong am I?

Never said it was an argument we were just having a conversation. With that being said though, wouldn't AI bring about a technological boom that should in theory be able to get us past Mars?

Maybe it does and maybe it doesn't. Current "AI" techniques are not going to lead to any of these. They are useful but they won't lead to general AI.

Hopefully we get to general AI atbsome point in the not too distant future. Truth be told I feel as though AI will bring about some controversy if it gets released too early to the general public. Plus I want some Iron man armour already.

If someone asks you if you wanted to drive a car a 1000 miles or walk 1000 miles, you don't have a "choice." The outcome is already decided.

While most won't volunteer for the first few iteration, once the technology has proven, it would be a gamechanger. Anyone not having it would be considered "mentally handicapped."

Technically this is also the case for people not owning computers/smartphones. They're considered "slow" but the gap would be 10x with a computer access directly to the brain.

Exactly. I've been saying this for years. First we must self-improve. Only then can we move on past this insular rock. This is essentially what Stanly Kubrick's idea of the "star child" is. We must change our form in order to survive beyond this world.

How exactly do you think sequential processing systems are ever going to be as good as a mammalian brain which uses simultaneous processing? Unless you can use traditional CPU architecture to create CPU with at least a million cores (lol not happening) good luck, shmuck.
