If you got the job and know nothing about it then it shouldn't be too difficult. Most STEM graduates work in desk jobs doing little mental work anyway as the computer does all the math, programming, and circuit designs anyway - programs and functions are already pre-programmed into whatever software you will use.

It's all pretty basic for most of it. Test, get numbers, fit a function. The last bit is essentially machine learning. Depending on the level the company's at, you might be impressing them with hand-drawn pictures of straight lines, or reinventing a whole new calculus.

Lots of tweaking and It just werks

Occasionally you might throw in genetic algorithm to design your neural net, but mostly just run and pray it works with large enough data set.

You don't need to know anything. Most machine learning a black box data jobs. You just to write scripts to scrape data into a format that Matlab can eat
