This might actually be the most future proof field of science considering materials science exists. I don’t see matsci R&D being taken over by automated processes anytime soon and there are many breakthroughs to be made there.
All other fields of chemistry are fucking dead, though.
So tl;dr nothing is future proof but you might get lucky by going into materials.
There is currently no job on the planet that is completely safe from automation while also being a sustainable career choice.
